Beginning in February 2017, you can find us at 2235 E. 38th St.-- just 10 blocks northeast of our current location. We will be closed for programming from Dec. 19-Feb. 10 for the move, but will need all the help we can get during that time!
Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions:
Why are you moving?
- Our current location is owned by an awesome guy named Manuel. He and his wife bought the building with hopes of moving their existing business, Creaciones Rosy, to its own storefront someday--and that day has arrived! We are excited to welcome them to the neighborhood and hope you'll stop in when they open their doors.
- 4164 Cedar was a great place for us to get our start, but it has always been a starter home in our eyes. Now that we've been around for a few years, we have a better sense of what we need in a space and where our space needs to be. We are very excited about the new ways we'll be able to grow and support the community at 2235 E. 38th St.
What will the new space offer?
This is the most exciting part of this whole experience! Here's a break down of some of the opportunities...
The building itself is better suited for creative activities-- including a heated garage (for messy/ventilated activities), clean-up sink, and storage rooms. We'll maintain our studio space and hang out zone, and we'll also be able to add a separate creation/meeting space for partner agencies and after hours meetings. The new configuration will ensure we can offer more classes and activities to our schedule to support our fee-free parts of the day.
Cedar Ave. is a high visibility place, but it's also a zoo-- especially at rush hour! Our new location is in a commercial corridor nestled into a quieter residential area. We're on a better bus line, closer to the light rail, and within (closer) walking distance of partner schools such as Roosevelt and South High Schools and Folwell Performing Arts Magnet.
We'll be sharing an intersection with Cornerstone, a nonprofit serving those impacted by domestic and sexual violence; a tattoo shop, an Irish dance studio, a comic book store and a senior living apartment complex. Our partnership wheels are already turning and we hope to find ways to engage our new neighbors in community building through the arts. We'll also be moving closer to many of our existing participants and families!
How can I help?
Between packing, prepping the new space, moving everything, and cleaning, we have A LOT to accomplish in the next 45 days. Below you'll find a list of dates when specific tasks will be taking place. This list will be updated regularly and we encourage you to sign up for a text alert for those less formal, but equally important opportunities to help. We will also be in need of supplies and donations to help offset the costs of moving. Check out our wishlist below or head over to our membership page to make a donation!
If nothing else, we hope you'll join us Feb. 11-13 for one of our Grand Re-opening celebrations, register for a class or two this spring (we've got options for both youth and adults!), and help us spread the word about the move and our momentum!
